James “Whitey” Bulger who as the infamous leader of the Winter Hill Gang has been caught today. Bulger wa placed on the F.B.I. most wanted list in on August 19,1999 for racketering, 19 counts of muder, extortion, money laundering, narcotics distribution, and conspiracy. He was 81 years old when authorities arrested him.
You may be familiar with a movie called “The Departed” in 2006 which partially inspired Jack Nicholsons’ character. The movie was a hit with a lot of twists all the way until the ending. No spoilers here in case you haven’t seen the movie yet, if not, we highly recommend it.
Catherine Grieg was the long time girl friend of James “Whitey” Bulger for over 16 years. She is also facing charges of harboring a fugitive but many think that was out of fear for her own life because Bulger killed her two brothers.
Bulger’s girlfriend Catherine Greig, 60, faces charges of harboring a fugitive in her court hearing Thursday. Oddly enough, she lived for 16 years with a guy who killed her two brothers, who happened to be Whitey’s rivals.

The F.B.I. tried to use Bulger to give up the names of all the other criminals he was associated with and cut a deal that let him carry out his criminal activities by being an informant to the F.B.I. but this backfired and brought more embarrassment to the law enforcement agency rather then doing good.
Whitey Bulger served as an informant for the F.B.I. in a controversial arrangement that allowed him to continue with his criminal activities. The disclosure in 1997 by the Boston Globe of the involvement of federal agents with Bulger brought great embarassment to the law enforcement agency.
It’s amazing how James “Whitey” Bulger could of escaped the law for so many years and you would hear of news of him and his wife being spotted in countries world wide but upon questioning older couples that looked like Bulger and his wife, he has never been found until today.
